Milky Way mode and M51 Whirlpool Galaxy (NGC5194 and NGC5195)
From our place inside the Milky Way, M51 reminds us that even galaxies dance—spiraling through cosmic time in a gravitational embrace 23 million light-years away.
Scheduled capture IC2674 (Coddington’s Nebula) – NGC4631 (Whale Galaxy) – NGC4656/57 Hockey Stick Galaxy – NGC5907/6 Knife Galaxy
Tonight’s automated run targets a beautiful mix of subtle and striking galaxies: the faint, patchy glow of IC 2574 in the Messier 81 Group, the dramatic edge-on NGC 4631 (Whale Galaxy) alongside the distorted NGC 4656/NGC 4657 Hockey Stick pair, and the razor-thin NGC 5907 (Knife Galaxy) with its faint companion NGC 5906—a full night capturing everything from chaotic star-forming regions to elegant edge-on structures shaped by cosmic interactions.
