Hi all,
I’m not easily impressed by things anymore, but there are exceptions. I still remember the total eclipse of 1999 in Europe, which I witnessed from Paris. I think it is still the most impressive nature phenomena I witnessed in my entire life. Yesterday we had another total eclipse in Europe, but due to circumstances I could not make the travel to Spain.
Nevertheless, with 89% of maximum eclipse from my location in the Netherlands, it remained a must to get the Dwarf 3 Telescope out, and find a good spot to capture it. And WOW, am I grateful I did and that we were lucky with the weather and location we have chosen to do so!
I’ve been very vocal about the capabilities of the Dwarflab Telescopes before, and yesterday, my mighty Dwarf 3 did not let me down either. It’s just impressive to see what technology Dwarflab has put in our hands to be able to explore Deep Sky Objects and capture events like this Eclipse. I’ll probably not make it till the next opportunity to witness an eclipse of this magnitude in Europe, unless I travel to the South of Spain, or North of Africa, in 2027. The next opportunities closer to Central Europe are in 2081, 2090 or later. So yeah, yesterday was THE opportunity to capture it once more, and share the experience with my family, especially my 7 year old son. Not a total eclipse, but still an impressive experience to witness together!
Without further delay, let’s jump into the footage my Dwarf 3 was able to capture!
I initially planned to go for a timelapse capture, taking pictures automatically every 5 seconds. However, there was a bit of wind and I was afraid that the timelapse would end up being to shaky. Also, this would then leave me with a video and no pictures, limiting me in what I could then do with the footage. I ended up taking manual pictures every 5 minutes, having the Dwarf 3 set to auto exposure settings and stacks of 10 pictures per capture. Auto focus from time to time and apart from running each of the 26 images through Stella Studio, no other post-processing has been done!
To start, a quick compilation of the entire progress of the eclipse!

How amazing is that?! Dwarflab… thank you! I know, I’m the customer and just like many others, we paid for a product… but as I mentioned before, this is still the best product I ever bought. The capabilities of this smart telescope are just amazing, and the ease of use, which the Dwarflab team has put into it, as well as the software and features, are just amazing. It’s like I said before like a gift which keeps on giving! Genuinely extremely happy to have been able to capture the entire progress of this eclipse with my Dwarf 3!
Around 19.10 the eclipse started…

… to gradually progress …

… to the max eclipse point for our location …

… and back to a normal Sun appearance …

That’s it… I honestly don’t have anything else to add. Words can not capture this anyway. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves!
To endless exploration, starry nights, and a little bit of cosmic nerdiness!
