Hi all,
Another amazing nebula logged! IC1396 – Elephant’s Trunk Nebula, to be exact, IC1396 with IC1396A known as the Elephant’s trunk.
IC 1396 is a sprawling emission nebula located in the constellation Cepheus, roughly 2,400 light-years away from Earth. Famous for its Elephant's Trunk feature (IC 1396A), this nebula spans over three degrees of sky, making it nearly six times wider than the full moon. The entire region glows with the energy from the massive central star HD 206267, whose intense radiation and stellar winds trigger ongoing waves of star formation within dense clouds of gas and dust. With its vivid colors and intricate structures, IC 1396 offers a stunning visual spectacle and serves as a rich nursery for newborn stars, all set against the deep cosmic backdrop of Cepheus.
